In the late 90's I decided I wanted to live without a car. I lived truly car-free for 4 years in all, but, in the end, failed.
What's Wrong with the Car?
- Cars cause enormous amounts of polution, they use huge amounts of non-renewable resources, they occupy huge amounts of space, they occupy much of our time, they are expensive to maintain (average of $7,823 per year [1]), they kill and maim numerous people (over 3000 killed per day worldwide [2]) and animals, they wreck our urban architecture (sprawl) and they damage our culture and health.
So, what's good about them? They're convienent.
